You are tourist planning to visit Agra or Jaipur with just a stopover at Delhi because you think there is nothing worthwhile to explore in the city? All those who think that there is nothing to do or see in Delhi has either read the history or never have bothered to look beyond the surface of Delhi. Why? The reason could be lack of valuable information – whatever information one gets from the Internet is just about one part of the Delhi – the posh side of it.

But believe me there is definitely more to Delhi than just glitzy malls, and fast-paced cars and zooming metros. Delhi has an amazing history, with its historical monuments, art galleries, heritage buildings. Question is if there is so much more then why do tourists (both international and domestic) overlook this beautiful and historically rich city? The answer is as simple as the question – lack of proper information and this is where our new mobile app – DELHIPEDIA comes in.

Delhi the national capital of India is popular not only for its colonial connection but also for the shopping extravaganza for shopaholics. From glitzy malls to old colonial markets to lane markets of specific areas to the renowned flea markets, Delhi offers something for everyone. Hence here’s a list of some of the illustrious markets of this city.
1. Janpath Market
Visit to Delhi will be incomplete if you don’t visit the well-known Janpath Market. Literally translated Janpath means people’s road, the market offers everything one can dream of at affordable price and is termed as a shopper’s delight because of the bargaining culture. Looking for some traditional lamps, jootis, or traditional hookahs, shell curtains, or anything unique? Then head to Janpath Market. Yes, you need to haggle a lot to bring down the prices and which have been normally hiked up by the shopkeepers. If you are a westerner, it would be good if you take a fair idea of the price before you venture out so that you do not end up feeling cheated.
2. Sarojini Nagar market
SNM courtsey Ilovedelhi.inAfter Janpath your next market visit should be Sarojini Nagar Market located in the south Delhi. The market offers loads of stuff in terms of clothes, shoes, accessories among others at really affordable prices. Yes you need to haggle here as well, as the shopkeepers have hiked the prices deliberately to misguide the shoppers. Sarojini Nagar or SN, as it is fondly called by the locals, is the best market if you want designer clothes at inexpensive prices.
3. Chandani Chowk
Looking for some good fabrics for your traditional Indian wear, or jewellery, or for just old world charm then head to one of the busiest market of Old Delhi – Chandani Chowk. Chandani Chowk is the Hindi name for Moonlit Square and is the epitome of palatial bungalows from the British era. The market is a perfect blend of bungalows that radiate old world charm and modern transport facilities that spell development.
4. Lajpat Nagar
Another eminent market of Delhi is the Lajpat Nagar market located in the south Delhi. It is like Janpath market for the people of South Delhi. With bargaining, as the order of the day the market offers some amazing stuff for everyone. From children wear to women apparel to men’s fashion to accessories to handicrafts to handbags you name it and you find it here.
5. Gaffar Market, Karol Bagh

Popular for products like shoes, crockery especially chinaware, cosmetics, electronics and second hand mobile phones, Gaffar market is a shopping heaven for those who don’t care about the guarantee or warranty or even bills but want to stay ahead of the crowd. The key word here is ‘imported’ goods.
